Question: In terms of where it fits within in British British theatre context, do you think that Shakespeare's actually been a positive element or has it actually been a sort of a hurdle that people have to get over? Answer: Well I'm afraid it gets crammed down children's throats and that's bad cos it put them off Shakespeare for life. But I can only see it as a positive. I mean all the Shakespeare plays are so you know they're so full of wondrous things, but I can't feel that we could ever get enough of it. But I think what's bad is, yes, that culturally if it's if it's, you know, turned into something holy and sacred and that if it's crammed down your throat when you're not interested then it could be, it could do terrible damage and put you off for life. |
