Description Question: In terms of working the Shakespeare wihin different theatre spaces, do you think that there is an ideal space in which Shakespeare? Answer: No. See I think that's like interpretation. I think that that, what's right for Shakespeare shifts around just as our lives shift around. So that where as for a long time I thought the Roundhouse was the perfect place for Shakespeare, now I'm not so sure. You know, just a big brick, empty recycled Victorian space was exciting for a long time. I'm not so sure about that now. A big white space was exciting for a long time and I'm not so sure about that now. I couldn't tell you actually, you know, it moves, and it moves again with how you want to do the particular play. So for some things I would rather be in a theatre with a proscenium and the curtain down and then, you know, not long after that I might want to do it somewhere else all together. Or you might go to somewhere incredible, a site-specific as we call it now. Some incredible location and you think 'God, this is Lear's blasted heath, we've got to do it here'. That's, you know, the choices now are infinite and there's been a continuous development since the proscenium, since the forties, of theatre space, which is another question probably.
