Question: I am interested in looking at different environments in which you have designed. You have also designed opera as well as theatre. Is there a different function for the designer and for the designer in those different types of work? Is there a large contrast? Answer: There are many differences. I think in opera you have more of a shared responsibility for the whole thing and opera is seen, I think, by many as more of a, if you like, a multimedia experience, the visuals and the sound and the ideas can have kind of an equal weight. In theatre it's much more about perhaps the ideas or the performance and usually much more actor-performance centred than opera. |
