Question: And and again is there a, do you think it is possible to find a, I mean what constitutes an appropriate metaphor or an appropriate analogy? Answer: Well this is shifting sand. Yes. I mean, an appropriate metaphor for Richard III as a sort of a nazi. Well now we've got many more nazis since then. So a post September the 11th Richard III might be very different. I mean what's going on around us is so powerful it affects our sensibility and it affects our interpretation of the classics all the time. But it's shifting ground. There's no finite answer to anything. And that is how it has to be, otherwise theatre would be dead. |
