Question: Are there themes then that run through your work, would you say? Answer: I don't know. I can't find any. I'd like to think I take every production totally new, you know, but I suppose if you look back there is a kind of a certain taste, a certain preoccupation with with colour and with the way colour works, maybe. And space. The importance of getting the space right before you put any scenery in. I hate decorative elements that don't have any purpose. Question: So that sense of creating an atmosphere, an environment (Yes) in which the characters move and live. Answer: Yes. In order to leave the open end for, because it's not finished until until it's received by the audience. And unless it's open to them, they're just looking at a load of pictures. And so it's finding how to open the material and and leave leave the questions open so that the audience can take part in the resolution of the of the drama, whatever it is. |
