Twenty-Second video interview clip with Theatre Designer Fran Thompson |
| Description |

Question: Do you think that attitudes towards Shakespeare have changed over the last forty years? Answer: Yes, and thank goodness they have. I think people have become much more irrelevant, irreverent [laughs] irrelevant [laughs], have become much more irreverent and I think that's really good. And I think that particularly comes from people like Peter Stein and people approaching it from a different language and editing in a way that I think is just fine. It's not a sacred text, I think when it's produced as a sacred text in a very purist way I think it can be very, very dull. I think Baz Lehrman as well, Romeo and Juliet, that's a very good example of somebody approaching a text and injecting it with a tremendous amount of life. |
